Ellis Island is a former immigration center. It was the United States' primary place of entry for immigrants between the years 1892 and 1924. Ellis Island is located in the New York Harbor near the Statue of Liberty. The exhibits on the first floor of the museum describe the typical patterns of immigration including a multitude of compelling facts about the millions of people who have passed through the processing station here. Upstairs are examples of the possessions the immigrants brought with them, showing the diversity of the immigrants' backgrounds. Anyone who visits the museum will leave the museum with a clearer understanding of the people who passed through the Ellis Island Immigration Center (Over 950,000 in 1903 alone), the processes required to allow them into the U.S., and the lives that many of them lived after they arrived. Look for the names of your ancestors on the Wall of Honor outside the museum. The museum also has a library where anyone can research his or her heritage. Getting into the museum is free. You will have to pay for the ferry which leaves from Battery Park. The ferry schedules run according to season and expected volume. This is a fun and interesting date. It provides history of the people who first took a chance on America.

The movement and modern trend of urban zoos around the nation are as a result of the trends first done by Central Park Zoo.This date idea, besides being fun, is great because the zoo is designed to educate, involve, and connect people to our natural world. At first, the array of collected animals was a growing group of donated animals - including 72 "white swans" and even a black bear cub. In 1864, the State Legislature authorized the city Parks Commission to establish a formal zoo. This tiny zoo definitely set a standard for its time. Now the Zoo is funded. It is a terrific way to spend an afternoon. Take your sweetheart to the zoo to learn about animal life and you will have a great time.
