Rose Canyon campsites are spacious and attractive and they are spread out among stands of large ponderosa pine and clumps of Gambel oaks. Even during the hottest summer day in the deserts below, Rose Canyon stays fairly cool. Rose Creek meanders through the area over a colorful bed of boulders lined with clumps of red-osier dogwood to Rose Canyon Lake at the lower limit of the campground. There is a 7-acre lake, tucked away among tall ponderosas and granite outcrops. It offers a nice setting for a woodland walk, a lakeside time-out, or an afternoon of fishing for stocked rainbow trout. There is a one-mile trail leading around the lake that provides access for anglers and others. It passes by some excellent spots for taking photos of the surrounding trees, rocks, sky and other nature reflected in the quiet waters. The campground closes in October, but fishing is still available. |
